Event Recap: Walter Scott launches WENDY'S REVENGE

We were extremely excited to help launch the new Wendy book from store favourite Walter Scott!

Walter Scott is an artist based *somewhere* between Montreal and Toronto, who garnered near cult-status with his graphic novel Wendy, which was nominated for the Ignatz Award for Outstanding Graphic Novel. After graduating from Concordia’s fine arts program, Walter penned a trendy alter-ego to live out his own experiences in what he calls the “Wendiverse”.

As we watch the titular character navigate her early adulthood in the Montreal art scene, we realize that she is very familiar. We know Wendy, we’ve seen Wendy bobbing her head a show, we have a best friend Wendy, we ARE Wendy. She is a boozy bundle of nerves who has her sights set on becoming an art starlet but is consistently derailed by bad decisions. Despite (or perhaps by way of) her blunders, Wendy is completely lovable and relatable.

Walter invited up members of the packed house to give voice to the panels, which made for some hilarious exchanges. One impromptu-actor's deadpan delivery in particular left the crowd in hysterics! The Q&A portion proved fruitful, as Walter opened up about the true experiences behind the ink, including his artists' residency in Japan which led to Wendy going international.

We at D+Q felt very lucky to have hosted Walter Scott for the launch of the next installment of Wendy, as we feel that what he has created is such a strong reflection of both this city and this generation. The first Wendy continues to be a best seller, and we could not be more excited to help unleash Wendy’s Revenge.
