Graphic Novel Book Club: My New York Diary

Tonight we gathered to discuss the Julie Doucet's classic work My New York Diary. Julie Doucet was the first author to ever be published by Drawn & Quarterly! Some of our readers tonight were veteran Doucet fans and some were completely new to her work so our discussion covered lots of ground.
A lot of the bookclubbers were very taken with the detail in her work and noted the familiarity of her style and the instant recognition it instills in us.
We discussed the intricacies of translation present in this book and wondered how the language would have been different had it been translated rather than written in English by a Francophone writer.
Many of the readers related to the art school cringing and the roommate horror stories, amongst other things.
