Tonight the Graphic Novel Book Club met to discuss the latest Love & Rockets book, Is This How You See Me? by Jaime Hernandez. The Hernandez brothers have been writing Love & Rockets comics since the 80s. Some book club members have been reading for decades, while others of us were completely new to the series.

A major question was how the book would land in a group of both fresh and seasoned readers. There were mixed feelings about jumping into such a long-running story, but everyone agreed on two things: flashbacks were a good plot device to give readers a sense of what's up, and one month is not nearly long enough to get completely caught up.

The two timelines also gave us lots to think about in terms of aging and memory. Those who've had the chance to witness the cast of characters change over the years were especially interested in the ways the attitudes in the flashbacks have changed, with certain characters and incidents growing more unsettling as time goes on.
