Galician poet Chus Pato reads in Montreal! Join us on Thursday, March 23rd at 7:00 pm with Vancouver's Stephen Collis and Pato's translator, poet Erín Moure for a rare and special evening with readings from Secession/Insecession (Pato and Moure, BookThug) and Once in Blockadia (Collis, TalonBooks).

Chus Pato's 6th book of poetry and first in her pentalogy Decrúa (Delve), m-Talá, broke the poetic mould in Galicia in 2000. It and the books that followed, Charenton, Hordes of Writing, and Secession (published with Insecession by Erín Moure), and Flesh of Leviathan, have all appeared in English in Erín Moure translation. Hordes of Writing received the 2008 Spanish Critics’ Prize and the 2009 Losada Diéguez Prize. In 2013, the Galician Booksellers’ Association fêted Chus Pato as Author of the Year. Chus is in Canada at the invitation of VerseFest in Ottawa.

Stephen Collis’s books of poetry include The Commons (Talon Books 2008; 2014), On the Material (Talon Books 2010—BC Book Prize for Poetry), DECOMP (with Jordan Scott—Coach House 2013), and Once in Blockadia (Talon Books 2016). He's also written two books of literary criticism, a book of essays on the Occupy Movement, and a novel. He lives near Vancouver, on unceded Coast Salish Territory, and teaches poetry and poetics at Simon Fraser University. 

Erín Moure’s latest books are translations of François Turcot’s My Dinosaur (BookThug, 2016) and Chus Pato’s Flesh of Leviathan (2016, Omnidawn), and her own Planetary Noise: Selected Poetry of Erín Moure, edited by Shannon Maguire (2017, Wesleyan). This fall will see her translation of Brazilian writer Wilson Bueno’s Paraguayan Sea from Nightboat Books, and her translation of Antón Lopo’s Distance of the Wolf: A biography of Uxío Novoneyra, from the Fundación Uxío Novoneyra.
