OFF WITH THEIR HEADS! (Young Readers discuss Alice in Wonderland)
October 18, 2019
Local youth gathers to discuss the "weird", "creepy", "absurd" and "hilarious" latest book club pick, Alice in Wonderland.
Caleb, the host of the book club, asked questions to the eight young readers gathered to discuss Lewis Carroll's classic. "What's your favourite character?" Popular answers included the Queen of Hearts, the dodo bird, and, of course, the Cheshire Cat.
Caleb also introduced a fun game to make the conversation more lively: The Mad Hatter musical chairs. In Alice in Wonderland, the Mad Hatter and his crazy friends are constantly switching seats during their tea parties. The young readers did the same thing; every ten minutes, they would change chairs just like at the wacky tea party. This was the cause for a lot of laughing.
The only thing: everybody HATED the end. "It was all a dream?!! Whyyyy..." They all agreed that it was not nearly satisfying enough.
After pizza, the bookworms played an Alice in Wonderland trivia game. Very fun.
Thank you to our young readers for a wonderful evening!
Don't forget: next Young Readers book club pick is Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone.
Also: if you are 12 years old, you can come to the Teen Book Club. We will be reading Howl's Moving Castle.
