Our land acknowledgement

Drawn & Quarterly would like to acknowledge that our office and bookstores are located on the unceded territory of the Kanien’kehá:ka. Many of us refer to Montreal as our home, but it is named Tiohtià:ke. It has always been a gathering place for many First Nations and continues to be home to a diverse population of Indigenous peoples. We are grateful that creating and sharing stories has been a part of this land for thousands of years.

Recently, D+Q has asked ourselves what it means to have a land acknowledgement on our website and spoken at events. As part of this reflection, we decided that we will donate annually to RAVEN Trust, a registered charity that raises legal defence funds to assist Indigenous Peoples who enforce their rights and title to protect their traditional territories. Our first donation of $1000 was in October 2020. We encourage all organizations and people with means to donate, and would like to point that people can also donate Aeroplan miles to RAVEN Trust to help members of different Nations and their legal teams get to court to stand in defence of their land, water and traditional way of life.
