Graphic Novel Book Club: Grass by Keum Suk Gendry-Kim
December 4, 2019
A small crowd of readers congregated on this snowy night to discuss Grass, a graphic novel about Lee Ok-sun's experience as a "comfort woman" during the Second World War.
Though the subject matter was very heavy, an invigorating conversation was had as we discussed such broad topics as free will, bodily autonomy, nature and the trauma of war. Keum Suk Gendry-Kim's gorgeous brushwork was brought up repeatedly, as it beautifully compliments the emotional intensity of the story.
All in all, a thought-provoking discussion was had by all. Thank you everyone for a nice evening!
Please be sure to join us for the next Graphic Novel Book Club on January 15th, when we will feature Eleanor Davis' The Hard Tomorrow.
