Hearts beating in unison: Kai Cheng Thom launches "I Hope We Choose Love"

A huge crowd braved the cold and came out for the launch of Kai Cheng Thom's I Hope We Choose Love. It was a packed house!

Although unexpected, it seemed absolutely appropriate for this event to kick off with a sing-a-long:

"Spiralling into the center, the center of our being / We are the weavers, we are the woven / We are the dreamers, we are the dream"

"Singing together brings our somas into resonance".

In her warm, witty manner Kai Cheng Thom read from her newest book and led the group in a deep imagining exercise.

Can we imagine a world where everyone is seen, loved and accepted?

"This is a book about revolutionary love" - call-out culture, mental health, trauma, accountability, consent, good and evil are things we all think about.

"The embodiment of love is the only thing we have in this apocalypse".

The reading was followed by a conversation with Eli Tareq Bechelany-Lynch.

The conversation drifted from Tennessee Williams' problematic survivor Blanche Dubois to the "crazy" woman - "how trans women become famous quite quickly in queer communities and then disappear [...] and become 'crazy'".

Also explored was the topic of being a diaspora kid searching for a culture, how we experience gender within family, gender fluidity within the white queer narrative, and being "gender euphoric".

Thank you to all who came out for such a special evening!
